Block Interval

In plain English

Bitcoin aims for one block every 10 minutes. This chart is the actual minutes between recent blocks versus that 10-minute target.

A cluster of fast blocks is luck plus current hashrate beating the last difficulty. A cluster of slow blocks is the opposite. Difficulty will eventually retarget; this plate is the short-run heartbeat, not a difficulty model.

Math and metrics

interval_i = timestamp(block_i) − timestamp(block_{i−1}). Target = 600 seconds. No difficulty math on this plate.

minutes_i = (t_i − t_{i−1}) / 60. horizontal guide at 10.
